Karl Kim,
Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Hawaii

Karl Kim is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He received his undergraduate education at Brown University and a doctorate in Urban Studies and Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to holding appointments in the School of Architecture and in the Center for Korea Studies, he has also served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Hawaii. Mr. Kim has published more than 50 articles and papers in journals such as Accident Analysis and Prevention, Transportation Research Record, Computers, Environment, and Urban System, Journal of Safety Research, Royal Journal of Statistics, World Economy, Enviromental Impact Assessment Review, and others. Currently he serves as Editor for two journals - Korean Studies and Accident Analysis and Prevention. He has been a Fulbright Scholar to Korea and has served as the Scholar-in-residence for the Western Governors Association. Mr. Kim has received more than $6.2 million in research grants from various federal, state, and international organizations. His current research interests include transportation and sustainable development.
