Pavel Sobol,
Russian Project Director, CIVITAS Eastern Russia

Pavel Sobol is the Russian Project Director of the CIVITAS Eastern Russia partnership, which includes the states of Alaska and Washington, and five Russian regions - Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Vladivostok, Magadan and Khabarovsk. His professional interests lay in the development of non-government organizations, public administration and self-governance. Mr. Sobol has participated in several international conferences dedicated to civic education in Moscow, Mexico, Budapest and St. Louis (USA). In 2003 he participated in the Academy of Civic Education ( Los Angeles, USA) and in 2004 in the International Human Rights Training Program in Montreal ( Quebec, Canada). His most recent publication was the brochure “How to create a sustainable NGO”, which has been published in September 2004 within the joint project of the Russian-American Center on Kamchatka and Aleut International Association ( Alaska, USA) and financed by FRAEC. As of November 2001, Mr. Sobol is also the founder and director of the Russian-American Center in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
